VIV Arts Talks Collecting Experiences with Panel at Christie’s, London

Starting off an eventful month, VIV Arts had the pleasure of co-hosting a panel discussion at Christie’s London on a warm summer evening. The panel, “Can you Collect Experiences?” dove into collecting practices in the 21st century, the importance of audience engagement in art, and the ever-changing definition of ‘immersion.’ Invited to explore these topics were none other than Ana Ofak co-founder and creative director of artist aggregate Transmoderna, and Nassia Inglessis, artist and founder of Studio INI, with VIV Arts’ co-founder Carlota Dochao Naveira guiding the discussion. The event would not have been possible without the support of co-host Nicole Ching, VIV Ambassador and Specialist Advisor in the 20/21st Department at Christie’s London.

To kick things off, VIV Arts’ co-founder Oliva Sartogo invited the audience, a room buzzing with over 100 attendees, to participate in the launch of VIV’s first digital experience. Working with a group of social psychologists and art curators, including VIV Arts’ Ambassador Simonetta Scheidt, this digital experience invites participants to discover their ‘Artistic Persona,’ blending art and psychological insights, and designed to offer a personalized art experience. This experience set the tone for the evening’s discussions about breaking traditional ways of creating and collecting art in today’s digital age.

Both artists Transmoderna and Studio INI gave their introductions about their experiential, immersive practices in relation to sound and space, then opening up the discussion to the pressing questions of the evening– what is the potential of collecting and can you collect artistic experiences? Dochao Naveira explained that VIV Arts wants to reinterpret the idea of collecting entirely.

“For us, [VIV Arts] is about enhancing the collecting experience. We’re ultimately enabling our artists to make their dream projects come to life and this process begins with collecting. For us [collecting is] more than just ownership– collecting is the access point to a bigger experience or even an enhanced relationship with the artist, something that lasts over time.”
