VIV Arts Hosts Artist Panel and Cocktails at Ella Funt, New York

Rounding off a busy week at Frieze New York beginning of May, VIV Arts hosted an artist panel on Friday, 3rd of May titled ‘Breaking Boundaries: Art Beyond Gallery Walls,’ with leading voices in the contemporary art space including artist Ralph Nauta from DRIFT, artist Jacolby Satterwhite, and artists Steffen ‘Dixon’ Berkhahn and Ana Ofak, the duo behind Transmoderna. An energising conversation moderated by VIV Arts Co-Founder, Carlota Dochao Naveira, the panellists explored their multisensory, experiential artistic practices that stand in stark contrast to the static images that could be found at the nearby art fairs scattered around the city.

Throughout the conversation, the artists delved into the concept of site specificity, emphasising the importance of considering the spatial and conceptual limitations of a space to create a meaningful artistic experience. They explored the coexistence of digital and physical realities in art and how technology continually evolves and supports their practices. The discussion also underscored the collaborative nature of each of the artists’ practices, integrating diverse creative fields for artistic creation. The role of the audience was considered crucial, with their interaction seen as complementing and even transforming the art. Finally, the artists shared their future visions, discussing unrealized dream projects and the ever-evolving nature of artistic spaces.

The memorable event took place at Ella Funt, an exciting new restaurant in the East Village within a lower ground space currently undergoing renovation for a cultural club they are due to open. An accidental ‘immersive environment,’ the active construction site contributed to the notion of breaking boundaries within the arts.

The event would not have been possible without the generous support of Ella Funt owner, Lounes Mazouz, and the event’s alcohol sponsors Wing Woman Whiskey Reserve and Dal Dottore Gin, two women-owned, women-led spirits brands with a mission to support women in the arts.

VIV Arts’ Frieze week in New York ended with a private dinner the following night, Saturday the 4th of May, celebrating Transmoderna and providing a unique opportunity to experience Mycoforest, Transmoderna’s latest screen-based artwork, in the city. The intimate evening was co-hosted by VIV Arts, Akash Shah, and Nathan Clements-Gillespie, Director of Frieze Masters. VIV Arts looks forward to continuing these critical conversations through their upcoming projects. To learn more and stay up to date, follow VIV Arts on Instagram Instagram .
